🚍⚡️ #London has reached a major environmental milestone, with more than 3,000 zero-emission #buses now in service, representing around a third of #Transport for London’s fleet ahead of Clean Air Day. The number has increased from just 30 electric buses in 2016, making London home to the largest zero-emission bus fleet in Western #Europe. #TfL estimates a fully zero-emission bus fleet could save five million tonnes of carbon over the next 20 years, while the current fleet already cuts emissions by more than 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually. All new London buses have been zero-emission since 2021. TfL has also completed the conversion of lighting at around 12,000 bus shelters to LED #technology, reducing energy use by more than half and improving visibility. The 3,000th zero-emission bus is operating on route 165 between #Romford and #Rainham.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
#TfL has responded to an information request regarding prolonged programme overruns and delay provisions for the highway and utility works at Gallows Corner in #Romford.

The utility works, coordinated alongside TfL’s flyover scheme, involve an ageing water main replacement by Essex & Suffolk Water (ESW). Although the applicant enquired about delay damages under an NEC contract, TfL clarified that no such contract exists. Instead, ESW operates as a statutory undertaker under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA).

The initial schedule targeted a start on 24 June 2025 and completion by 12 September 2025. While significant TfL works concluded in April 2026, additional water main testing and commissioning have caused ongoing delays. Consequently, standard delay damages do not apply; any potential cost recovery will be assessed under Section 82 of the NRSWA once the project is fully completed.

Just seen an Andrew Rosindell Vote Conservative poster. That aged well. #Romford
In 1978, #London #Transport (LT) trialled the Multi-ride ticket system in #Havering, aiming to achieve 100% one-man bus operations. The scheme, introduced in February, simplified the fare structure, offering discounts for regular travellers. London Country’s route 370, running between #Romford and Corbets Tey, also participated, as did Eastern National, which started later in May. Multi-ride stickers were carried by BT vehicles at Grays garage. The trial aimed to reduce boarding times and streamline fare collection, but although passenger uptake exceeded expectations (with around 75% using Multi-ride tickets), boarding times only dropped to 3 seconds, still far from the 2-second target for efficient one-man operation. Despite being popular with passengers, the scheme didn’t achieve the desired operational efficiency. As a result, LT reconsidered expanding the scheme fleetwide and reassessed future vehicle replacements.

I'm in the #romford branch of #Cex, to trade in my old phone.

I'm getting a better price from them, than I would do from the equivalent shops in #brentwood

The first of this week’s two midweek walks is on Monday. All welcome join us!

1/5 #infrared

I've been shooting a lot of infrared lately so this week here's another selection. This is a dead tree in Bedfords Park, north of #Romford.

An #infrared shot with two edits - this is the #monochrome reply to the colour edit.

I'm mainly going for black and white #ir shots these days, but I can't make up my mind about this one.

It's a #590nm 4 shot panorama on my full spectrum Sony A7ii with a #Konica35mmf2 lens. (I was too lazy to change the lens to the 21mm) and taken last Monday in winter sunshine in Raphael Park in #Romford.

Sun's out, so me and the #TheDoodle took #MPoulet out for a cruise into #Romford.

This little cycle track was campaigned for by Havering Cyclists and it makes the entrance into town so easy.
