People are fascinating.

If there’s one thing I enjoy the most, it’s pretending to be a wallflower and observing small, beautiful moments of life moving around me. People watching as it’s more commonly known.

And the people of Ridgewood are by far some of the most fascinating people in NY that I’ve had the pleasure of both getting to know through social interactions and through observation behind the lens. The ecosystem of this neighbourhood functions so much like a small town with a quiet charm and tightly knit community. And all of this is because of the people.

I admit, it is quite deep into New York City, but that distance from the city itself is why so many people choose to live here. It’s away from the hustle and bustle, but not too far away that it feels isolated. Just far enough to build an oasis that is unique and different from anywhere else in the city.

Ridgewood may not be for everyone. I know from experience. But for those of us who are here, we’re not complaining.

Ridgewood, New York, Summer 2025

As with all things in life, everything is temporary. And New York? Well New York was always temporary.

Temporary as it always was, I lived like I would be here forever. Looking back, I don’t think I would change anything. Now, three years into this journey of living abroad, I’m being called towards my next destination.

And because of that, I needed to imprint New York and this wonderful neighbourhood that I fell so head over heels in love with into my soul. To give it a space, a home, a place where it could live on forever. Become permanent.

This photo and others to come are my love letter to the community that welcomed me and let me make it my home.

Ridgewood, NY, Fall 2023.

The colour red was what caught my attention. I took this photo on the one year anniversary of when I moved to NYC. I had experienced so much in just that one year, and had bought myself a new camera to commemorate those experiences.

I was excited about putting my camera to work. So I went for a walk to take some photos in my neighborhood. I think it was through this walk that I really started falling in love with my neighbourhood.

A couple of years later, I’m still enamored with this part of New York and couldn’t imagine a different neighbourhood to live in. And I’m still putting my camera to work.
