Update: I may be changing from “my pet peeve“ to “hill upon which I will willingly sustain serious injury“ the concept of “sacrifice” being distributed to others, not oneself. It seems to me that the concept of “sacrifice“ there’s only a valid concept when you are offering it yourself, as a burden that lands only on yourself. Is there really any such thing as “sacrificing“ others? Or do we need to use a different word for that? #Religidon

A lovely thing to find in my pigeonhole in the mail room: a copy of my colleague Simon Brodbeck's new book with Cardiff University Press.

He's not on this site so will get no lift from this, but he's a Sanskrit scholar looking at early Hindu theology and the Mahabarata.

As you can see, he's got a lovely cover AND the book is available #OpenAccess if you don't want to buy the paperback.

Blog post from my colleague at the Centre for the Study of Islam in the UK, Abdul-Azim Ahmed, examining the religion results from the 2021 census for England and Wales as they relate to Muslims in Britain and, specifically, Muslims in Wales. He considers the tension between growth and the enduring minority status - what it means for individuals, communities, and institutions.

Hey all,

I have a friend wanting to join mastodon who is a religious scholar but it looks like the scholar instance is closed at the moment. Any suggestions on a good server for him to jump onto?

“We are afraid of religion because it interprets rather than just observes. Religion does not confirm that there are hungry people in the world; it interprets the hungry to be our brethren whom we have allowed to starve.”

So moving my account to rcsocial lasted all of a half-hour.

Despite the apparent willingness to host all sorts of faiths & all separate viewpoints, I got met at the gate by someone with a very my-way-or-the-highway attitude. I dislike it when people try to limit a Limitless Deity. I could tell it was going to be endless animosity, so I left.

Does any #Religidon or other #theology nerd have a recommendation for where I can set up my account in peace, without annoying my neighbors too badly?

“If you want to know how science and religion are related, first come to know the deepest truth of yourself. This is what I realized when I looked into the nighttime sky: I saw myself in the stars and the stars within me.”

— Sr. Ilia Delio

I see that we have 120 scholars now listed on the #Religidon spreadsheet! This is amazing! Remember, you can add yourself here:
