I wrote a semi-formal update on the repeater project(s) - I’m officially calling milestone 1 (repairs to my repeater) successfully completed thanks to some generous folx, and I’m now turning my attention officially towards helping @KJ7OMO get her repeater back on the air (although unofficially, I started working on hers about a month ago).

The new RF deck is in the old (original) repeater, and working great! Sometime very soon - potentially tonight even, the Allstar node will go offline while we move the computer back from the temporary repeater. While we’re doing that the computer will also be getting an OS upgrade, and an upgrade to ASL3.0, so the Allstar side may be offline for a few hours, or up to a couple days depending on how involved everything gets.

@KJ7OMO has done much work in this space already, with the Pride Radio Network, so I’m partnering with her to make that network a core component of how these ‘new’ repeaters will connect to each other.
In the interest of getting started, we’re focusing on 2 repeaters that are currently offline, but we’d like to get back online and connected to the network : mine, and hers!

We all have only limited time & resources so best to pick sth that fits your current ability and implement it.
Just start somewhere, with one OS practice.

Shared obstacles+frustrations: people in power to change practices in a field to more openess do often not prioritize/value/understand OS enough to implement crucial changes, QC is absent
Positives: we are a strong community with a ton of skills&enthusiasm and have a new generation behind us that do things differently: transparent, more reproducible, open, #FAIR

Exciting week for #OpenScience. The virtual brainstorming on OS initiatives from #GRN started today and our local Open Science lab from #SLUB #Dresden opens this Thursday. I will contribute with a small summary on what our #reproducibility initiative #R4E offers on community learning and workshops.
Looking forward to talk to OS enthusiasts locally and country-wide.
