Our new R package makes it easy to report the percentage of effect sizes that a given effect is larger than for a given research field. So instead of reporting a 'medium' effect, you can say something like, "we found an effect that was larger than 42% of effect sizes reported in the field"

Scaling open science behaviors such as preregistration require making the formats as broadly applicable as possible, and customizing for discpline, method, and approach as much as is necessary.

Thank you to the inaugural members of the preregistration template working group for bringing their diverse backgrounds and expertise to maximize the potential, value, and impact of preregistration.

New Working Group Seeks to Curate and Evaluate Preregistration Templates for Inclusion in OSF

As part of efforts to recognize and appreciate volunteer contributors, the Center for Open Science (COS) would like to introduce a new community working group: the Preregistration Template Working Group.

Together with the Open Learning Initiative (https://oli.cmu.edu), the Campbell Collaboration (https://www.campbellcollaboration.org) is now offering a free self-guided course on Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis: https://oli.cmu.edu/courses/systematic-reviews-and-meta-analysis-o-f/ This looks like an excellent resource!

“A Student’s Guide to Open Science” walks students through the history of the replication crisis & the behaviours that we can engage in to improve transparency, replication, & reproducibility. It’s written for students, researchers, & supervisors. What’s behind the cover?

If I had one wish for everyone teaching with #rstats this academic year it would be to focus your materials on “learning skills through R” and not simply “learning R”. The latter is an unachievable goal and sets your students up to fail. The former approach can be used to break the teaching down into manageable building blocks, for students, & learning subsequent complex skills. When you are learning, how something is phrased matters!

Just returned from a symposium on 'Recent Advances in Meta-Analysis: Methods and Software' (https://medstat.umg.eu/aktuelles/symposium/), where I gave a brief demo of the metafor package (slides here: https://www.wvbauer.com/lib/exe/fetch.php/talks:2023_viechtbauer_goettingen_metafor_demo.html). There were also demos of the meta, bayesmeta, and RBesT packages (slides should appear on the symposium website) and lots of interesting talks on various aspects of meta-analysis. #RStats #MetaAnalysis
