The poor Shotover River. Not only is Queenstown Council using it as a drain for partially-treated sewage, but now the Regional Council has expressed concern about the ammonia and phosphorus concentrations also being discharged.

Amazingly, QLDC has no set limit for discharges of phosphorus.

You're soaking in it now. And so is everyone downstream of QT.

Unlike Queenstown where mayor Glyn Lewers has used his power to silence two community groups objecting to the legislation.

Members of both the Malaghan Valley Protection Society and the Friends of Gibbston Character Zone are affected by large fast-tracked property developments on their doorsteps, but the mayor denied them speaking rights.

QLDC doesn't want to upset the Nats.

While Peter Thiel's planned bunker at Damper Bay was rejected, the Environment Court is pissy at the way Queenstown Council switched from opposing the development to sitting on the fence. The Court said QLDC should have defended its original decision and its District Plan more strongly.

To rub it in, QLDC has been ordered to pay costs of $44,199 to the awful billionaire who controls Vance.

As times get rough, some people will fall behind on their bills. Queenstown Council has an answer to this. They serve a demand on your bank which duly hands over the money, leaving you with an un-arranged overdraft.

QLDC have served almost 600 of these demands so far. Apparently no other council in NZ does this. As it inevitably targets poorer people, it seems quite cruel to me. Especially the poor woman who had an instalment agreement with the QLDC.

Independent media outlet Crux is certainly rattling some bones in Queenstown. They're trying to keep the QLDC honest but that's a big ask.

Given QLDC's seemingly unlimited access to lawyers from around the country, this is a strong editorial.
