Today at the Minorities in Cybersecurity Conference, our panel discussed "Sacrifice and What It Means For Your Career,” which sparked some powerful insights from my fellow panelists and the audience.
We explored the balance between what we're willing to give up and what we must protect at all costs. I shared my personal boundaries including time, self-worth, and respect. These are areas where I've learned the hard way that compromise isn't worth it.
But we also discussed where sacrifice has propelled us forward. For me, stepping away from the traditional corporate ladder was difficult but necessary. As I told the audience, "Don't be afraid to go alone. Don't be afraid to like it." That decision allowed me to build the expertise and relationships needed to eventually launch my own company.
What have you refused to sacrifice in your career journey? And where has strategic sacrifice paid off?
