Against all odds, my Philodendron is making a comeback 🌱✨
After a heavy infestation of aphids, I honestly thought it wouldn’t survive. But now, new leaves are emerging and it seems to be pest-free again. Plants are often tougher than we think 💚

Na een zware bladluisplaag dacht ik eerlijk gezegd dat hij het niet zou halen. Maar nu komen er weer nieuwe blaadjes tevoorschijn en lijkt hij opnieuw vrij van ongedierte. Planten zijn vaak sterker dan we denken 💚

The carnivorous plants I received from my friend — because they weren’t thriving on his terrace — are now fully recovering. They’ve already grown plenty of fresh new traps, showing just how resilient these little predators can be. 🪰🪷

De vleesetende plantjes die ik van mijn vriend kreeg — omdat ze het op zijn terras niet zo goed deden — zijn helemaal aan het bekomen. Ze hebben al heel wat nieuwe vallen aangemaakt en tonen zo hoe veerkrachtig deze kleine roofdiertjes zijn. 🪰🪷

A dear friend of mine had a small bog planter on his terrace, planted with Sarracenia purpurea var. purpurea, Drosera intermedia and a Dionaea. Unfortunately, they weren't getting enough light there, and they started producing weak or deformed traps. So he decided to give me the planter, hoping I might be able to save them.
A challenge I gladly accept — and I’m very grateful for these plants!

Een goede vriend van me had een kleine moerasbak op zijn terras met Sarracenia purpurea var. purpurea, Drosera intermedia en een Dionaea. Die kregen daar helaas niet genoeg licht, en begonnen mislukte of misvormde vallen te maken. Daarom heeft hij beslist de bak aan mij te geven, in de hoop dat ik ze kan redden.
Een uitdaging die ik uiteraard aanga — en ik ben heel dankbaar voor deze planten!

Today some plants arrived, including this Crassula pellucida marginalis. Will it behave like other Crassulas? That is, if we stick those leaves that broke off into soil, will they propagate? Do we need to keep some precise pH? Some particular temperature? Ballmer peak?

Check out the $10 Alocasia Melo saves. Wally World rejects for the win! Unpotted from the "soil" and have them soaking now to suck up the good stuff. Found about 5 corms while doing so as well so those will probably be started soon as well to get moar plants.

The volunteer squash plant was terribly neglected during my run in with Covid, but managed to persevere. In respect to it, I spent some time today pulling the weeds that were choking it, buried some of the dead-leaved stem pieces, and sprayed the leaves this evening with neem oil. Might be too late to get any squash out of it, but I’ve done what I can.

Lipstick Plant Rescue!

My Lipstick plant lost almost all leafs and looks terrible. In this video, I cut off all the dead parts and try to rescue my plant. Let's hope that it recovers soon.

Got a tip that the grounds crew at a local school district was going to spray herbicide and kill a patch of milkweed, joe pye weed, and other native wildflowers. So we took shovels and tried to save some to plant in our yard.
