#HP laying off a significant amount of human labour, and would be relying on #AI. Is this the same HP that is already an #infosec nightmare? Of course… oh, and the market doesn’t like it.

And while we are about it, it really is upsetting to hear how many companies are thanking #Microsoft for creating so much e-waste. Oh sorry, I mean stopping support of #Windows10 They are betting their future profits on the need to buy new machines to run #Win11 🤦‍♀️

Never mind the poor consumer, who is having to prioritise food and medical care, over security. I know @wendynather has a great term for it (which I can’t remember right now), but let’s call it tech debt until someone reminds me.

Service with a grudge.

The Verizon-affiliated store here in my small town no longer carries any accessories for the Apple iPhone 12.

A phone I bought in December of 2020.

My response: "Lady I got stuff in my freezer that's older than that."

And they wonder why we hate them. *

* Note to self: Defrost that turkey pepperoni soon.

It lefts me with a strange taste of smth like "victimblaming" — like, I know the fabric of my clothes (cotton and linen); I dunno change clothes, electronics and furniture if they are "out of fashion". And a lot of ppl around me do the same.

Where are these mythical ppl, who buy fashionable things each 2 years? Where they earn so much money?!

The bewildering phenomenon of declining quality

Airplane seats are getting smaller and smaller, clothes are unrecognizable after the second wash, and machines now answer our calls. Quality and care for craftsmanship seem to be things of the past

I can still do almost everything just fine with my Late 2013 27" iMac, thanks to the (at the time) top-of-the-line model, and OpenCore Legacy Patcher, which allows me to use almost-current macOS versions with all security updates.

Even #Reaper with tons of plugins and DaVinci Resolve still work great.

Two points will make me upgrade in the near future, though:
* X-Plane 12 won't run, because it needs a more recent Metal version, which the hardware doesn't support, and
* #NeatVideo denoising takes ages, but it does such a marvellous job for low-light footage from my almost-as-old DSLR.

Well, there´s your problem!

(This busted TPS54339E step-down converter would explain why my WD 6TB MyBook decided to die exactly 2 weeks past its 2-year warranty).

Sometimes it's hard not to suspect #PlannedObsolescense - this has happened several times for me, especially with #Seagate and #WD hard drives...
