@wyatt the closest I've seen was the #PixelQi panel mod for an:old #IdeaPad #Netbook

But yeah, I want to see some proper #eInk screens with like #DVI / #DP (or even #HDMI) input…

@adamhsparks yeah, kinda sad there ain't many transflective screens around.

@landley Right now I'm glad @krutonium made sufficient efforts to enable said #eBookReader to be feasibly target-able for @OS1337.

Yes, I'm still mad about #PixelQi getting acquired.by #3M and ceasing to offer their cool screens and yes I still want that PixelQi-swapped #IdeaPad-#Netbook

  • Why can't we have nice things?

@rl_dane granted, as @TechConnectify points out this is propably due to the use of #eInk as a tech for monitors being nieche and big panels being more of an exception than norm.

  • I'm still mad #3M decided to pull #PixelQi off the market post-aquisition because it combines the advantages of #LCD & eInk with fewer drawbacks than either alone...

Alas one could in theory #DIY cheaper eInk Monitors if one accepts seconds-per-frame instead of frames per second as well as being willing to fiddle around with a @RaspberryPi / #Pi0 v1.3 and shove that #HDMI2CSI adapter on so it bssically displays a captured #HDMI signal in fullscreen.

@nomeata I miss #PixelQi and their #Transflective screens.

I've already seen #eInk monitors, but they are exensive af (espechally given their specs!)...

  • That being said, eInk is still an awesome tech and I really want to see it become more mainstream besides #eReader|s!
2. Retrofit the 7.5" #olpc screen into the #PocketReform. Aside from modifying the screen bezel, working out the connector may be a lot of fun.
Alternatively, use the 7" #PixelQi screen (https://liliputing.com/first-look-at-pixel-qis-7-inch-display-new-netbooks-tablets/), if it can be sourced (at all).
(Only if the dimensions work out - meaning, no complete case redesign.)

@nestor @gintoxicating AFAICT #3B bought up #PixelQi and thus made availabiliy even worse...
@nestor @gintoxicating the problem is that like a real, ergonomic monitor running #eInk is just extremely expensive at ~ €1,5k that one may just be better off buying an old #IdeaPad S100 and doing the #PixelQi #Display #Mod to it instead as a compromise...

@LunaDragofelis @Larhanya maybe an #eInk / #Mirasol or #PixelQi (#transflective) screen works best for you?
A decade ago, the #OLPC had a screen that could work in 2 modes: normal LCD with colour, and low-power sun-readable monochrome. The techno was by #PixelQi. That company tanked but apparently https://www.tripuso.com/index.html is still selling 7 inches screens with the techno. Anyone bought some from them? Do you know of any other tech that is similar (fast color & e-ink-like monochrome)?
