In 2022 Montpellier has given itself the goal to more than triple cycling in the modal split. Coming from nearly nothing to 10%.

„Increase the proportion of journeys made by bicycle from 3% to 10% by 2026“
https://www.montpellier.fr/en/actions/competences/transport-mobility/le-velo

And they have team up with the professionals from #Copenhagenize and #3M. And I would say, that this can be seen in real life. The amount of cyclists I see while being a tourist in town is small. Smaller then the quality of cycling infrastructure would let me assume. But maybe that is a good thing. This seems to be „built it and they will come“ rather than the German „no one is cycling so we keep the cycling infrastructure dangerous and scary until out of some magic moment people start cycling anyway“. Of course this is not the case for all German places - but I would still say, that there is no German city with it‘s infrastructure to be ahead of the demand and therefore inviting people to cycle.

Montpellier‘s plan is to create a network with 235 km of safe cycle paths of which 70% shall be completed this year, 2026.

They don’t stop at the cycling network. Intermodal travel is on their mind and bike parking integrated into their mobility app M’Ticket TaM offering various parking options including save boxes.

Firefighters look to restart PFAS case against manufacturer 3M

The federal government's $2 billion lawsuit against "forever chemicals" manufacturer 3M has Fire Rescue Victoria considering whether it should relaunch its own legal proceedings.

I wish we would do more of this: sheet home the name & shame & blame - and costs - to companies like 3M knowingly doing the wrong thing, & leaving their crap & consequences for others to clean up.
