🤔

Credulous is a well documented feature in Finnish media, too. The expected completion date (vertical axis in graph below) of the #Olkiluoto3 nuclear project was pushed forward almost semiannually, a dozen times during years of construction 2006-2022 (horizontal axis) and mainstream media would quote the new date as if it were a certainty.
Not long ago it was enough to multiply projected nuclear construction time by π but in the Italian case it might be more like π².
@Sustainable2050 Another relevant question is how much the EPR decreases absolute CO2 emissions, compared to an alternative development path.
In Finland the carbon intensity of grid power was already low, at 60 gCO2e/kWh. It was also decreasing rapidly and steadily by 15-20 gCO2/kWh annually, thanks mostly to new wind power capacity, apart from 2021-22 when Russian power imports ended.
Commissioning of #Olkiluoto3 in 2022 had remarkably little effect on that trend.

Cost transparency on the other EPR project #Olkiluoto3 in Finland would be interesting, too.
Many quote just turnkey delivery price, which doubled from €3bn to €6bn.
But the final construction cost, including interest, could be 3x that.

Teollisuuden Voima (TVO), the company operating Olkiluoto Nuclear Power Plant in Eurajoki, Finland, communicated earlier this month that the two plant suppliers have committed an additional 80 million euros into a fund set up to ensure the completion of activities during the warranty period.
The price tag of the #Olkiluoto3 nuclear plant in 🇫🇮 keeps growing because of frequent warranty repairs.
Suppliers Areva, Siemens agreed to top up the completion/warranty fund (709M€ in 2018, then another 600M€ in 2021) that was exhausted few months ago, by another 80 million euros, in order to pay for remaining liabilities.
