Fingrid, Finland’s transmission system operator, submitted to the Helsinki District Court an application to seize the Eagle S oil tanker to secure its claim for damages related to the breakdown of EstLink 2 connection.

These vastly exceed current (8-13GW) electrical power load in Finland.

Fingrid expects annual electrical energy demand to double from 78 TWh in 2022 to 140 TWh in 2030, mostly due to electrification in industry (from 36 to 75) and heating (from 17 to 24).
Electrifying 900.000 cars adds only 2 TWh/a in 2030.

Low power density is not the limiting factor of #WindPower. The grid is.

The Finnish TSO Fingrid operates a 14 GW national power system but already has connection requests of 95 GW for #offshoreWind power. Only a fraction can be built.

Five coastal priority connection points of 1,3 GW each are now planned between now and 2040. #Fingrid expects total offshore wind capacity to reach 6.5 GW (30 TWh per year) by the end of the 2030s.

🧵 1/ The interconnection #EstLink2 used for power transfer between #Finland and #Estonia was disconnected suddenly on January 26th just after midnight local time.

An investigation regarding the disconnect has been launched. It's currently unknown why the disconnect happened and if there was an outside factor regarding it similar to the #Balticconnector last year.

This was reported by #Fingrid, Finland's transmission system operator.
