LA NOTIZIA: Influenza aviaria, registrato in Lombardia il primo caso in Europa di infezione umana. Il ministero: “Monitoriamo la situazione ma non c’è nessun allarme”
È stato identificato in Lombardia il primo caso in Europa di infezione umana da virus influenzale A(H9N2), meglio noto come ‘influenza aviaria’. A darne notizia è il Ministero della Salute secondo cui questo virus è “a bassa patogenicità” e ha colpito “una persona fragile con malattie concomitanti e proveniente da un Paese extraeuropeo dove ha contratto l’infezione”. Il paziente zero, prosegue il ministero, “è attualmente ricoverato”.
“Sulla base delle informazioni scientifiche ad oggi disponibili il contagio avviene tramite esposizione diretta al pollame infetto o ad ambienti o materiali contaminati. I casi umani sono caratterizzati da malattia lieve e non è stata mai riportata trasmissione da persona a persona”, precisa la nota.
Per non lasciare nulla di intentato, “tutte le verifiche previste sono state tempestivamente effettuate e i contatti del caso sono stati individuati, nell’ambito delle ordinarie attività di prevenzione e sorveglianza”.

Sul caso Fabrizio Pregliasco, direttore della scuola di specializzazione in igiene e medicina preventiva Università degli Studi di Milano La Statale, ha rilasciato una dichiarazione all’Ansa affermando che si tratta di “un evento che richiede attenzione senza però allarmismo” in quanto “i casi di trasmissione all’uomo di influenza aviaria, pur rari, sono monitorati da anni e rientrano nei sistemi di sorveglianza già attivi”.
Ciò non toglie, però, che bisogna mantenere alta la guardia “rafforzando il tracciamento epidemiologico e mantenere alta la vigilanza soprattutto nei contesti a rischio, come gli allevamenti”, aggiunge Pregliasco spiegando, in conclusione, che “per ora non ci sono evidenze di trasmissione sostenuta tra esseri umani, ma questi episodi sono un campanello d’allarme sull’evoluzione dei virus influenzali”.

The first case in Europe of human infection with the A(H9N2) influenza virus, better known as “avian influenza,” has been identified in Lombardy. The Ministry of Health announced this, stating that this virus is “low pathogenicity” and has affected “a fragile person with underlying diseases and originating from a non-European country where they contracted the infection.” The patient zero, the ministry continues, “is currently hospitalized.”
“Based on the scientific information currently available, transmission occurs through direct exposure to infected poultry or contaminated environments or materials. Human cases are characterized by mild illness and there has never been a report of transmission from person to person,” the note clarifies.
To ensure nothing is missed, “all planned checks have been carried out promptly, and the contacts of the case have been identified, as part of ordinary prevention and surveillance activities.”

Regarding the case, Fabrizio Pregliasco, director of the School of Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine at the University of Milan – La Statale, issued a statement to ANSA saying that it is “an event that requires attention without alarmism” because “cases of transmission from avian influenza to humans, albeit rare, are monitored for years and fall within the already active surveillance systems.”
This does not, however, diminish the need to remain vigilant “strengthening epidemiological tracing and maintaining vigilance especially in high-risk settings, such as poultry farms,” Pregliasco adds, concluding that “for now there is no evidence of sustained transmission between humans, but these episodes are a warning bell about the evolution of influenza viruses.”
