I recently obtained a computer that is running Linux Mint. I haven't checked the version yet, but it is very old (it has a touchscreen, originally came with Windows XP, and also has a Windows Vista certified sticker on it, I believe it was made before 2010) it is extremely slow (it takes 1-2 minutes to boot) and I plan to connect a different tower to it (the current one has less than a gigabyte of RAM, and the hard drive is extremely slow, I have a different tower with 8 gigabytes of RAM that I would like to try, although I am having difficulty inserting a 1 terabyte drive and booting it) and use the screen, as my first touchscreen desktop computer. The only problem I am seeing is that Linux Mint doesn't seem to be responding to the touchscreen, although the monitor is in good condition. Any time I press anything on the screen, it just makes a beeping sound. It is an old HP computer. A few months ago, I asked for some fedihelp with switching from Windows to Linux. It all started with a simple question about saving my Adobe Lightroom edits. It ended with me deciding to get a brand new second Linux computer (with a virtual Windows machine). I had to make some difficult decisions....

Today, however, it was delivered... 🥰

Did a #Gimp install, which gave me version 3.08. The open file dialog seems to be terrifically buggy. Whew!

It opens an easy-to-find file okay, but try to customize it and it's rather messed up.

I'll have to go file some bug reports when I get through this.

Further to the #newComputer setup process, I've got all my files onto new machine, and the backups are running smoothly. Yay.

Working my way through apps and often getting newer versions in the process. Preference and theme export/import from old machine is not always clear of user friendly, but I'm getting there.

Setting up a new Mac and facing the usual choices. Migration assistants or manual copying into a clean install?

Invariably I lean toward a clean install, but it takes days of work. It's hard to argue with the opportunity to rationalize all your apps, files and setups though.

Guess I'm headed that way again.

Since I'm getting my first actual new computer ever, I think it's time to begin thinking about what kinds of stickers it needs.

If anyone has input, that would be most excellent my righteous dudes!

Of course I still have one more Dobbshead sticker that I have been saving for a special occasion, but any of my #SubGenius family or there have input on this, your word will hold much more weight.

Mucked up my new machine because I thought the second drive was mounted at /home. Just installed Manjaro KDE on it, and all is well. Hats off to @system76 for such a great machine! #newComputer
