When I was in school, I wrote a short story about a kingdom on a floating island, because a floating island sounded so nifty and fantastical.
It wasn't until I was an adult that I learned that floating islands actually exist... and are kind of a nuisance to locals, from time to time.
It wasn't until today that I saw an actual video of it.
TIL that a wombat's butt is made of thick cartilage that's so scratch and bite resistant that it can use it to plug the entrance to its den and also to literally crush a predator's head with a good twerking. 🫠
Smack talk AND science. :)
I found out today that #elephants can #swim. What's the point? Stay on land, elephants!
I’m still trying to get over the fact that caterpillars digest themselves with tissue-dissolving enzymes, essentially turning themselves into #soup and then somehow… eyes, wings & antennae emerge from that soup in the shape of a #butterfly.

…and like, is the caterpillar considered to be “alive” through this entire process? Because if so, that’s some serious business.
