When I was in school, I wrote a short story about a kingdom on a floating island, because a floating island sounded so nifty and fantastical.

It wasn't until I was an adult that I learned that floating islands actually exist... and are kind of a nuisance to locals, from time to time.

It wasn't until today that I saw an actual video of it.

✨ Happy Wednesday ✨

First up today on #TKSST:

🛥️ On #Wisconsin's #LakeChippewa, the local boat owners came together to show their dedication to protecting the #environment. Using the wind to their advantage, the teams of small boats carefully pushed a protected bog of tangled peat, roots, mud, and other plant matter away from the lake's bridge. The bog is a type of freshwater wetland, an invaluable #carbon sink, and essential part of #nature. A May 2022 #AirFoxPhotography #video shows the teams working together to relocate the bog for hours.

Relocating a floating bog on Wisconsin's Lake Chippewa

It looks like an island; it has a thriving ecosystem of tall Tamarack trees, vibrant greenery, and local fauna, and it's surrounded by water on all sides.
