A truly bizarre and twisted gem.
I’ve been digging into a lot of Mort Garson lately, and I pulled this out of a box I had in my basement this morning, totally unaware that I had it.
The music on this album was composed and executed by Garson, but the whole project is conceived and written by Jacques Wilson.
It trippily re-imagines the 1939 film The Wizard Of Oz, but sets the story in the #psychedelic 60’s, giving all the characters a hippie identity.
Dorothy is an acid-head flower child seeking the “far-out” and “where it’s at”.
It’s all quite hysterical and ridiculous, but Garson’s music is the PERFECT backdrop for what’s going on. By this point, Garson had MASTERED the Moog #synth , and these was nothing he couldn’t do with it.
A really wild and entertaining record.

MORT GARSON
Journey To The Moon And Beyond
2023 U.S. Ltd. Edition pressing
“Mars Colored” vinyl
A case of the Monday weirds.
Mort Garson was a genius.
Although he’s most known for his PLANTASIA album, his entire discography is just stellar.
THIS is super-fun.
It compiles the soundtrack to the 1974 blaxploitation film BLACK EYE, as well as some unearthed (and unused) pieces of music created for various advertisements.
There’s also a few pieces from a 1970 National Geographic special (the album opener “Zoos Of The World”), but the most captivating stuff here is Garson’s soundtrack to the live 1969 broadcast of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
It’s friggin GLORIOUS.
Load up your bongs, man.
It’s time to go to space.
Just an awesome and totally unique collection.
Also came with a huge poster and pamphlet for all of the Mort merch via Sacred Bones.

from the album marée
Ended Monday and welcomed Tuesday after a swim with Mother Earth's Plantasia an electronic album by Mort Garson released in 1976.
...The music on this album was composed specifically for plants to listen to. Garson was inspired by his wife, who grew many plants in their home. Garson used a Moog synthesizer to compose the album...
The album had a very limited distribution upon release, only being available to people who bought a houseplant from a store called Mother Earth on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles or those who purchased a Simmons mattress from a Sears outlet, both of which came with the record. As a result, the album failed to attain widespread popularity around the time of its release. However, it has since gained a cult following as an early work of electronic music - Wikipedia
