Tankas “Dark Rooms of Slow”

Morning bids me go.
In darkened rooms, I walk slow -
where night shadows grow.
I don't want to stub my toe.
Hence, my need for walking slow.

As I traverse the night,
you may say, Turn on a light!
(You know I just might).
I'm sure that would help my sight.
I'll still go slow when it's bright. #carefulSteps #ContemplativePoetry #dawnLight #humorPoetry #innerJourney #JapaneseIllustration #JapanesePoetry #lightAndDarkness #Mindfulness #morningPoem #nightShadows #poeticArt #shadowAndLight #silkscreenArt #slowLiving #SpiritualReflection #tanka #walkingSlow #wisdomPoetry #woodblockStyle

I found online this morning an amazing #Yiddish #poem by Mordechai Gebirtig ~ written in 1941, while imprisoned in the Kraków Ghetto, along with the rest of the city’s #Jewish population. Titled “אַ זוניקער שטראַל” (Sunbeam) ~ you can read the poem and a lovely reflection by Ben Kline here ~ https://yiddishkayt.org/juxtapoetry-gebirtig-oliver/

Ray of Light

In what sort of light do we see the world? Where does the light come from, and what do we do with it? American poet Mary Oliver and Polish Yiddish poet Mordechai Gebirtig offer two morning-time meditations on humans’ relationships to the world they are born into and the world they wake up in each day.

Yiddishkayt

A quiet, warm spot.
Sun through sheer curtains.
Soft couch. Hot coffee.
Mom is still sleeping.
The morning feels soft and gentle.
Poems are flowing.
A caress from Creation.
Connection. Reassurance.
Peace.

Here's something I wrote earlier this year. It's also on my blog this week (with audio version also available via the blog or youtube).
