Want to know something else that's neat about making low-emission sites in 2025? They probably will last longer than the gas guzzlers. #minicomp

What is the Small Web?

Updated June 19th, 2023 Sorry, your browser doesn't support embedded videos. But that doesn’t mean you can’t watch it! You can download Small Is Beautiful #23 directly, and watch it with your favourite video player. Small Is Beautiful (Oct, 2022): What is the Small Web and why do we need it? Today, I want to introduce you to a concept – and a vision for the future of our species in the digital and networked age – that I’ve spoken about for a while but never specifically written about:

I see there's a WordPress plugin to provide an #ActivityPub server, making the blog followable in the #fediverse https://fedi.tips/the-fediverse-beyond-mastodon/#WordPress Is there something similar for Jekyll blogs on GitHub Pages? Could there be? I haven't looked at Activity Pub yet; if it allows for a simple read-only service, could that be done with static files? Or maybe with an initial POST when new content is added, produced by a GitHub action when changes are pushed? #MinimalComputing #MiniComp @FediTips

Just switched servers to the humanities commons one, so doing #introduction again. First , thank you to the hcommons crew this space. Server is running wonderfully. I'm Alex, by now one of the new olds of #digitalhumanities I think. Interested in #caribbeanstudies #bookhistory #minicomp #publichumanities #digitalhistory #libraries. Here's hoping we create a good more paused alternative to Twitter here.
Oh, nice. People are starting to trickle in. Let me expand my hello hashtag set in case we find each other. #digitalhumanities was the first one I used. We can probably add #bookhistory #literature #history #digitalhistory #minicomp (that one is probably new, but hey, all about that jazz).
Looking forward to Alex Gil's talk this afternoon about minimal computing and Wax! You can still sign up for online or in person here in the DSC in Cameron Library #ualberta #minicomp https://ualberta.libcal.com/event/3698388
