Interesting call for chapters:

Minimal Computing for Social and Cultural Heritage

❝ At a time when digital heritage infrastructures are increasingly shaped by platform-dependent systems, this volume asks a fundamental question: what forms of digital practice are genuinely sustainable, not only technically and economically, but socially and culturally, for the communities who produce and maintain heritage? ❞

It’s here! We just launched the new website of the #DiGA Collection, a collection of Buddhist sculptures from the Dir Museum in Chakdara, Pakistan. This site was built using an experimental static site framework for #CulturalHeritage collections that I developed over the last months. It’s a first beta version, and it will serve as a foundation for future explorations. Hey Fedi-hivemind: I'm looking at reducing my work computing footprint for 2026 as I replace some machines. It occurs to me that, as I start doing less and less digital humanities work, my demands on a daily driver are *very* light: Emacs, Sublime Text, Thunderbird, Firefox, a few sundry cursed Electron apps. I feel like I could probably get away with using an RPi5 8G/16G for all that. What alternative single-board PCs should I be considering? #minimalcomputing #rpi

Is there a #lowtech #mastodon / #fediverse client, or server (fork)?

Thinking something which minimises bandwidth/power/storage consumption, like the work which has been done on @lowtechmagazine (https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com/about/the-solar-website/#how)

Today, I was extremely tired, nothing weird as the work week was quite tough. Nevertheless, I had some space to read about #plan9 it simply is an interesting OS. I am now playing around with #troff a bit. I really see potential to explore Plan 9 under a #minimalcomputing perspective #dh #blog
Scrolling casually through the HTML4 specification at the moment, we sometimes do forget how much we actually are able to create with pure compliant HTML4. #html #web #www #minimalcomputing

🕊️ Choosing privacy over convenience isn’t radical — it’s necessary.

I’ve distanced myself from centralized systems that normalize surveillance. My files, thoughts, and memories deserve better than silent extraction.

I don't need AI to read my docs.
I need silence, sovereignty, and control.

Minimal tools. Local storage. End-to-end encryption.
That's peace of mind.

You want to use a #StaticSiteGenerator and need to support #multilingual sites? It’s now easier than ever! For quite a while, #Pelican had a great plugin for that use case. Now I helped migrate it to the new plugin format, which means that it can easily be installed from #PyPI. https://github.com/pelican-plugins/i18n-subsites #MultilingualDH #MinimalComputing

I keep my to-do list in ~/notes/todo.txt.
I write articles in nvi.
I deploy static sites with rsync.
