SEISMIC ALERT — This morning at 8:16 AM eastern, a magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck the northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge, approximately 1,900 miles from Westport Observatory. Reykjanes peninsula is located directly on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates are moving apart. Iceland is the only place where the ridge is visible on land and it is possible to walk between the two tectonic plates.
