I thought to have a go at fooling the Merlin Bird ID app with my "impression" of an Eurasian Collared Dove down at the allotment this late afternoon 😁 Did I manage to? European starlings < according to #MerlinApp> in the early morning hours!

During my horizontal sojourn at the allotment yesterday, listening to the birds singing whilst being mesmerized by sycamore seeds 🙂, I thought of having a go with the Merlin app. My first time doing so, and I was very impressed! (It makes my little app look very amateurish though! 😂) #merlinapp #birds

Merlin isn’t picking up on the rooster cockadoodledooing a few doors down. There should be a chicken section. 😊

"Stop giving me your toughest battles" 😆

BTW Ptasiarze: macie jakieś metody na reset napotkanych gatunków wraz z nowym rokiem, czy po prostu nie przejmujecie się statystyką roczną i kontynuujecie uzupełnianie brakujących liferów?

BTW, in my unrealistic heart of hearts I WAS hoping for a pileated sighting today, but I assumed #MerlinApp would have jinxed it for me.

Blimey, it's noisy here this morning.

Mystery solved! The Merlin bird app kept showing the lesser goldfinch as a bird it was hearing. Was skeptical as the app has this bird only as far north as Northern Calif.

Well, on a lark, I pulled up the wiki entry. Lo and behold, the lesser goldfinch has moved north into OR, WA and ID. The expansion is due to the warming climate. Could even access an academic paper on their range expansion.

Still want to see one to visually confirm this, though.
