Steve likens the command line to a telegraph, and the graphical interface to a telephone.

Going deeper: Not only that you wouldn’t have to learn Morse code to use the phone, but you can use the full dynamic range of your voice for inflection.

He compares this expressional spectrum to the ability to chose different fonts when writing text on Macintosh.

"... maybe if he carries around one of these machines with him his whole life—his or her whole life—and types in all this stuff, then maybe someday, after this person’s dead and gone, we can ask this machine, “Hey, what would Aristotle have said?
