This is the end result of transmitting 600W into a receive only magnetic loop. Don't try this at home! #amateurradio #hamradio #antenna #magneticloop #dxing
A quick look back at this antenna’s humble beginnings in my second floor condo home office. Worked pretty well at that QTH…

With the CH F-Loop3 tuning capacitor working again down on 40 meters, I checked other bands and found that my favorite band (10 meters) had a VSWR of over 3:1. Changed back to the LMR-400 coaxial loop from the 1” aluminum tubing loop and found I could tune it under 2:1. Will keep this flexi-cable configuration until I get the chance to investigate further. #HamRadio #MagneticLoop #10Meters #IndoorAntenna

Also used it over the past 2 weeks to help do all the math to build an antenna project. I’m not done with it yet, but holy cats has it helped me with hands-on learning about how #MagneticLoop antennas - particularly the coil/capacitor tank circuit - work. Guided me to far better understanding how to use #NanoVNA to tune the tank, optimize the pickup coil, etc.

It’s infinitely more patient with my incessant, frustrated questions than any human instructor’s ever been.

Ten Meters is just opening up here in EN52 Chicagoland, and seeing some single and double hop skip to the southeast. Going to be an interesting day!

In search of distraction from this week’s terrible news updates, have put together a short post on my magnetic loop antenna upgrade. May it offer you 5 minutes of no-politics/war-news… 73

Magnetic Loop Antenna Upgrade

Took advantage of latest sale(s) at Chameleon Antenna to upgrade my CHA F-Loop 3 Basic to the Plus configuration. This…

Successful update to indoor F-Loop 3 antenna changes from RG-400 loop to a 1” solid aluminum tube with a 7” feed loop. The CHA F-Loop 3 Plus antenna covers 40-10 meters. Manufacturer’s data says antenna efficiency changed from ~88% to ~96% on 10m by changing from RG-400 coax to slightly larger diameter loop and beefier 1” solid tubing. #HamRadio #MagneticLoop #Antennas
@kr1st No, the loop model is not resonant — with the far field being determined from the aperture size against the perfect ground. This was just a playing-around, quick look at the feed placement to see what happened. The SW supplier has a more detailed model with feed loop and tuning capacitor included on their website. Will look at that next. https://antennasimulator.com/index.php/knowledge-base/magnetic-loop-for-3-5-7-14-21-and-29-mhz/

Just like last year (which was a fail), this summer includes experimenting with 160m antennas.

In addition to possibly #LoopOnGround & a #SlinkyInvertedVee or #LoadedVertical I'm seriously considering trying to make a larger-than-most #MagneticLoop for 160m.

Question for the hams on here since I'm finding somewhat contradictory information on the Internet: Do magnetic loop antennas work (well enough) indoors on 10m? Can't permanently install an antenna or even span one across the backyard (plus, to make things worse, transmitting from the ground floor).
