Second scarlet runner bean harvest of the year.
The small beans are from the front yard, based on north american scarlet bean genetics bred for flowers. The large beans are from the backyard and based on european scarlet bean genetics bred for food.
There are still a bunch more green pods, hopefully will ripen before the killing frosts.
12 beans harvested this year in total. Still hoping to get up over 30, which is how many were planted. Many did not succeed, have about 3 out of 30 bean plants that produced pods able to reach maturity. So the plants coming from these seeds should have much better production rates. Though will also save the tubers for replanting next year.
They say it can take 5 years to naturalize and learn to grow a crop effectively, certainly are on the way. Hopefully within next few years will be able to produce enough to have some for eating.
These ones were grown on sandy loam, but need to also grow them on silt/clay, as that is quite common around here.
