On Friday, lines of poetry by Jan H. de Groot were added to the portrait of John Frost on the eponymous bridge in
#Arnhem. The old bronze plaque had been stolen this spring and replaced with a portrait of John Frost by a spontaneous campaign by the television program
#EvenTotHier. Everyone was happy about this, but De Groot's poem was now missing from the monument, as Ada de Groot (daughter of) rightly pointed out to the municipality. The municipality's Heritage department commissioned me to come up with a solution. I advocated for a different location for the poem: on the brick piers on either side of the monument.
The monument is complete again. And has now been given a makeover. Because this message remains important to reflect on.
Proud of the result. Completely "Made in Arnhem." Thanks for the commission, Bob Roelofs, Pieter Polman, and Jeroen van Gaalen. And for the fantastic collaboration with Steven Frijlink.
