Some years back I got this iPad mini first gen from a friend’s mother who wasn’t using it anymore.
Recently started using it as an e-reader and finally read some digital books I collected over the years cause I don’t really like to read on my laptop.
Battery is surprisingly good and the size and weight is perfect for commutes/ EDC.
I love small and portable tech and don’t like the current trend of bigger and bigger stuff.
Also on a site note what is the current state on #linuxTablets?

Hey #AskFedi,

I'm currently using an Amazon Kindle Fire tablet (8") for sheet music (well, just chords, really) on my piano.

It's... a horrible device, of course. Locked down as all get-out.

Are there any linux tablets or folding laptops thin enough to be safely perched on an upright piano's music stand?

Used and cheap is preferable. XD

Is there a cheap #linux #tablet for #kids #children that you can use to draw and which you can recommend? The tablet should include a pen.

PineNote (a Linux-Powered e-Ink Tablet) is Coming Back

Pine64 has announced plans to make for a new production run of its open-source e-ink tablet. The PineNote was announced in 2021, building on the success of its non-SBC devices like the PinePhone (and later Pro model), the PineTab, and PineBook devices. Like most of Pine64’s devices, software support is largely tackled by the community. But only a small run of developer units have so far been produced, primarily bought by developers within the open-source community with the knowledge and impetus to work on getting a modern Linux OS to run on the hardware, and adapt to the e-ink display.

This $149 RISC-V Tablet Runs Ubuntu 24.04

DeepComputing has unveiled an new version of its DC-ROMA RISC-V tablet — and this one runs Ubuntu! The DC-ROMA RISC-V Pad II boasts a 10.1 inch (1920×1200) IPS 10-point touch display, and is powered by the same SpacemiT K1 SoC found in their RISC-V Ubuntu laptop (which launched with a confused set of pricing tiers and availability). That chip comprises eight 64-bit RISC-V cores running up to 2.0 GHz, plus the RVA 22 Profile and 256-bit RVV 1.0 standard to provide “powerful AI capabilities”, and an Imagine Technologies BXE-2-2 GPU, a baseline 800 MHz effort. Memory wise, the base model offers 4GB LPDDR4 RAM.

I'm now convinced that #Phosh is the best for tablets and convertibles. Thanks to everyone who worked on this.

If you were interesting in the #JingPad, after rumors of trouble and downsizing there's been some confirmation today, and also the announcement of a "45% off" sale with code NEWYEAR.

If you always wanted one, and were looking forward to running a different OS on it anyways, then this might be good news to you, otherwise I am not sure whether I would recommend this tablet now – I never laid my hands on the hardware and forgot most of the reviews I watched.
