My family: he works with computers, in a library, that must be a very challenging job.

Me: manually adds 25+ "database not available due to maintenance" messages to #LibGuides while listening to multiple renditions of Zombie.

"Challenging", indeed.

Libraries supporting data rescue

Librarians are great at quickly pulling together resources to support their patrons, and in the face of recent data loss, this need has become more urgent. Our patrons rely on access to public government data. While some of that data might be available for a fee through vendor products, not

Effectiveness of Academic Library Research Guides for Building College Students’ Information Literacy Skills: A Scoping Review

Academic library research guides, ubiquitous tools for teaching information literacy, lack robust evidence for their effectiveness. This scoping review considered 1,724 publications, ultimately reporting on findings from 61 studies meeting inclusion criteria. Studies reviewed were highly individualized and primarily exploratory and correlational, with most using mixed methods designs analyzing data from student surveys and web traffic sources. Most studies focused on student satisfaction or guide usability as indicators of learning effectiveness, with few assessments of skills acquisition. We undertook this scoping review to assist practitioners in developing more impactful learning tools and practices as they create and assess guides.

Discovered today that Chrome DevTools has a "Local Overrides" option. It saved my behind. I wish Firefox had an option like this, but I'll use any tool available if need be.

(I messed up some custom JS in a LibGuides test page that broke (just) that test page in such a way I could no longer access the Guide Custom JS/CSS menu to undo the change. Using local override I was able to disable the borked JS and access the menu again.)
