I've talked about how winter can be a great time to photograph various ducks in the winter at the Spit. Birds come to the ponds for the free-flowing water and shelter from winds. As winter proceeds, the ice starts to form on the pond, brining the birds closer and closer to the photographers who are game to sit on snowy/icy little beaches near the bridge, which stays clear of ice at the bridge because of water flow.
A reason to love Canadians. :)
