I really like trying various vegan "meats" even though I'm not vegan myself. I enjoyed the planted "steak" (made in 🇨🇭) so much that I haven't felt the need to buy a "real" steak for years.
Recently Slovenia-based Juicy Marbles have gotten a lot of hype for their vegan meats decidedly marketed towards people who do not consider themselves vegans. The products are outrageously expensive, but this is an industry where I'm happy to be an early adoptee if it means more traction.
I wanted to sear their "loin" over a charcoal grill, but unfortunately it instantly fell apart into long "muscle" fibers. I wasn't able to cook it on the grill and we ended up putting the entire loin back in the fridge comes halfway through. Luckily we had enough salad and veggie sausages to feed everyone, but considering the price that was a real letdown.
On the other hand, this morning I whipped up a quick BBQ sauce with apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, plum jam, sugar and spices and turned the entire thing into a pulled pork sort of affair.
That worked exceptionally well:
