THE YORK FACTORY EXPRESS: FORT VANCOUVER TO HUDSON BAY, 1826-1849
There were not as many posts on the North Saskatchewan River as there were on the #Saskatchewan, but still the western river had a rich history with posts rising and disappearing and moving up and down the banks of the river. #Journeys #YorkFactoryExpress #HBCHistory https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/north-saskatchewan-river/
THREE JOURNEYS NORTH TO THE ARCTIC SEA:
Just across the coastal mountains from Dease Lake, on the Liard River, was an HBC post, built on the Stikine River in 1834. Robert Campbell was unaware of this HBC post, and attempted (unsuccessfully) to reach the fur rich Stikine River basin from the east. #Journeys #ThreeJourneysNorth #NorthernBC https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/stikine-river-post/
THE HBC BRIGADES: CULTURE, CONFLICT, & PERILOUS JOURNEYS
There are many reasons why no one can find the old Brigades trails when they were once everywhere in the territory west of the Rocky Mountains. One of the most obvious reasons is that more recent infrastructure buried the trails. I finally recognized this when I realized where the trail actually ran! #TheHBCBrigades #Journeys #WestOfTheMountains https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/new-trails-follow-old/
THE YORK FACTORY EXPRESS: FORT VANCOUVER TO HUDSON BY, 1826-1849
The Saskatchewan River had a long history for both the men of the North West Company, and the HBC. As a result, there were many historic posts built up and down the #Saskatchewan River over the years. On their way up the river, the gentlemen heard all the stories of these old posts. #Journeys #YorkFactoryExpress #HBCHistory #CanadaHistory https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/saskatchewan-river/
THREE JOURNEYS NORTH TO THE ARCTIC SEA:
The Rapids of the Drowned may have kept my readers wet and cold, but there are worse rapids ahead: however, the hardy and stubborn HBC men made their way through all these dangers to the smooth river above. There were more dangers to come, however. #Journeys #ThreeJourneysNorth #NorthernBC #MackenzieRiver #NorthwestTerritories #NWT https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/liard-2/
THE HBC BRIGADES: CULTURE, CONFLICT, & PERILOUS JOURNEYS
From the little post of #Kamloops, the men of the outgoing HBC Brigades followed their old trail south to Monte Lake, and on to the Okanagan Lake and River. From their headquarters at #FortStJames, they were travelling south, covering more than a thousand miles in their journey to Fort #Vancouver #WA, by the Columbia River. #Journeys #The HBCBrigades #WestOfTheMountains https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/brigade-six/
THREE JOURNEYS NORTH TO THE ARCTIC SEA:
The wealth offered by the Liard River played a significant role in the North, and it attracted the men of the North West Company west from the Mackenzie River, leading them to the Nahanni, Dease Lake, and eventually the #Yukon River. The HBC men followed them, and they too followed the first explorers through the Liard's violent rapids and narrow canyons. #Journeys #ThreeJourneysNorth https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/liard-river/
THE YORK FACTORY EXPRESS: FORT VANCOUVER TO HUDSON BAY, 1826-1849
In 1846, the artist Paul Kane, who joined the incoming York Factory Express at Norway House, makes his way west from #ThePas toward #Edmonton House. #YorkFactoryExpress #Journeys #HBCHistory https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/paul-kane-2/
THREE JOURNEYS NORTH TO THE ARCTIC SEA:
We have already read Augustus Peers's London Ship journey to Hudson Bay, and now we can learn what Robert Campbell, of the #Yukon, had to say of his sailing voyage west to York Factory. #ThreeJourneysNorth #Journeys #Manitoba #MBHistory https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/london-ships/
THE HBC BRIGADES: CULTURE, CONFLICT, & PERILOUS JOURNEYS
Chief Factor Peter Warren Dease worked at #FortStJames in the early years of the brigades, and brought them out over the trails to Fort #Vancouver for four or five years before he left the territory. #Journeys #TheHBCBrigades #WestOfTheMountains https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/peter-warren-dease/
