I discovered the tv show our flag means death and I LOVE it and I'm like why didn't I find this earlier??
I absolutely love stories with queer characters that are set in historical times
I'm so sad that it only has 2 seasons
Do you know other series of queer historic fiction?

finished reading Limberlost 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
by Robbie Arnott.

With his elder brothers away at war, a teenage boy attempts to fill the uncertain hole of their incommunicado absence by restoring a decrepit sailboat. In it he finds freedom and love for his surroundings. And there's a quoll and a crazy whale. A nice snapshot of mid-century northern Tasmania but I didn't really feel it.

by Jackie French.

In the aftermath of WW1, a woman strives to build a new life despite the sacrifices she has made. Eventful & enjoyable, if implausible, with an excellent cast of characters and strong Miss Fisher vibes.

A rare book sets a teenage boy on a path of mystery, love & revenge. This was nearly great, with an intriguing setup, smooth prose, vibrant characters and an evocative sense of time & place (mid-century Barcelona). But it ran out of steam with repetitive storytelling and too much exposition. And nearly all the men were incorrigible womanisers.

DANCING WITH HISTORIC FICTION…
It is historic fiction but at the same time it's a tale of what could have been. When we gathered that historic night at John's Bondi flat we didn't know that we were on the cusp of a new political era and, at the same time, at the start ot the dissolution of a band of friends brought together by the changes and excitement of the decade just gone…

And, still, after all these years, all these decades, we do not know the identity of the person who tipped off the journalist.

Shepherd Express

Vagabond 1-3: I thought that this series started out quite slow in volume and continuing into the second.

I thought for a series that wants to be grounded, being #HistoricFiction, Takezō seemed superhuman, taking on large groups of opponents with seeming ease.

I found that the drama really started to ramp up in volume 2, allowing for a deeper understanding of the characters and their motivations.

The artwork and action scenes are absolutely fantastically rendered.

"Izzy" Moira McAlister. 3.5 stars. Follows the extraordinary life of an early Australian colonist who was present for some momentous historic events & more than the usual share of drama. All the more amazing for being based on real people. Pedestrian prose with awkward dialogue, but captivating.
