What is actually happening is middle aged and seniors (many of whom are already driving automatic cars) are buying the EVs, and their vehicles are being sold and subsequently driven by younger folk (or they live in the family house and are sharing an automatic vehicle with their parents).

I have noticed in busier urban parts of #Suffolk, #Essex and #Reading about half the #cars I see on the street and in the yard outside my work are now automatics

At present it remains small #hatchbacks with dual clutch gearboxes which are becoming popular with the younger generation rather than EVs (everyone I know who drives an EV is north of 50)

VW's 'Hot Hatches' at New Performance Levels

The Volkswagen Rabbit, known as the Golf worldwide, was introduced in the United States in 1974 as a compact, front-wheel-drive car. The Rabbit was Volkswagen’s response to the growing popularity of small, fuel-efficient Japanese cars like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.  Rabbit’s spunky nature and great handling, and photos of it lifting an inside rear wheel during aggressive cornering made the Rabbit a VW icon. Remember, it essentially replaced the VW Beetle in the Volkswagen lineup. The 1976 model year saw the release of the Mk 1 Rabbit GTI, creating the “Hot Hatch” moniker. With more horsepower and even better handling, the GTI became an instant

FOGOLF - FOLLOW GOLF

#Carflation is also an issue here in #Europe, even with #superminis and #hatchbacks - a former staff member owned an #VWPolo Typ AW (the latest variant since 2018) and it is noticeably wider than my Typ 6C (and very slightly longer by about 100mm).

The Polo already has solid bodywork and a good safety rating since at least the 2000s (if not even before then) - so the growth in size is more to benefit the driver and other occupants by providing more interior room..

'They Want To Be The Gatekeepers': Car Dealers Are Stopping Customers From Buying EVs

Car dealerships are resisting the transition to electric vehicles.

@steve Must be nice. Here in America we have trucks, cars that look like trucks, SUVs - which are basically enclosed trucks, crossovers (that sit up high to help see past the trucks), and a handful of sedans and econobox 5-doors. Coupes and hatchbacks are virtually nonexistent. And that’s the gas-powered selection.

There are ZERO #EV #coupes, and save for the Mini, ZERO EV #hatchbacks. Give me a modern EV version of the Honda CRX, Nissan 240SX, or Toyota Celica, please.

I saw an #Abarth immediately upon leaving work before I walked to my N Line. #hatchbacks

#America is so weird when it comes to #cars available. I want small #electriccars and please bring back the #hatchbacks for coupes and sedans, I don't need some shitty crossover or SUV.
Even my 1980 Toyota Corolla 2-door had 5 seats, plenty of trunk space, and could go on the highway. That car was considered small in 2014 and it would be tiny compared to my current 2017 Prius.

@Pheneatis #Hatchbacks are the best!! I'll be so sad when my 2003 Toyota Matrix gives up on me but we've had a very good run.
