Some of the worst nonsense I have seen lately has been about Graham Platner. Reporting what he has said and done does not amount to attacks and witch hunts. The man has behaved oddly. Personally, I am far more concerned about him being a gun fanatic. His explanation about his military adventures - "I read too much Hemingway" - aren't going to help a lot with promoting him as a veteran. He has important blemishes and denying them can only make matters worse.
Reading comments posted in social media about Platner ought to cause a great deal of concern about his chances in November. He has been criticized often from his left. Maine is hardly a Democratic state. One of my Piscataquis County cousins is Facebook friends with Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump but NOT with his own brother and sister! There is a HUGE right wing population in the northern and eastern two-thirds of the state. For Platner to beat Collins, he is going to need united Democratic support. Those numerous critical comments from his left do not encourage optimism. A lot of work needs to be done.

"The star witness in the New York Times' big exposé on Graham Platner spent the fall of 2018 co-founding a group called Ladies for Kavanaugh and publicly branding Christine Blasey Ford's sexual assault account "baseless." The Times ran her story across its front page and never mentioned that part.
Her name is Lyndsey Fifield. She is not a random ex who came forward.
She is a career conservative operative whose longest job was at the Heritage Foundation, the shop that authored Project 2025.
She later did digital marketing for Nikki Haley and is now a fellow at the Independent Women's Forum, the same outfit that handed Susan Collins her talking points for confirming Kavanaugh in the first place.
In 2018 she called the women accusing Kavanaugh liars and said she wanted those allegations to follow his accuser for life. In 2026 she would like to be believed without question.
