It shouldn't take a tragedy to enact common-sense legislation. But good for Maine to at least wake up to the reality of violent gun offenders with track records.

Sadly, even when tragedy occurs in our state of South Carolina (such as what happened at Mother Emanuel AME), lawmakers are too cowardly to stand up to the NRA and enact meaningful change that can save lives.

The Concealed Carry Mandate would make it easy for abusers, criminals, and untrained individuals to carry hidden guns in states that wouldn't otherwise let them—the gun lobby's dream and a public safety nightmare. For example, if a man from South Carolina with a history of domestic violence went after his estranged girlfriend in New York, police couldn't stop him from carrying a loaded gun.
