These are a couple of Camellia's. These are rather flamboyant and are saying a big hello to Spring. I couldn't find the variety names, though I did find that the smaller hot pink blossom with the first one is Prunus mume 'Beni-chidori', a Japanese apricot.

This is my favourite tree at the Sheffield Botanical Gardens, Acer Griseum. It's a slow growing tree, so this one must be at least 50 years old if not more. It's also known as the Paperbark Maple, from it's gorgeous cinnamon-like coloured bark. It has dark green leaves that turn crimson and scarlet in autumn.
