People keep asking me what Posthumanism is… in a few simple words (from my perspective as a #gradstudent , not an expert)… it is a decentering of the “human” in our thoughts and actions. (When I refer to “human,” I mean it in ALL senses that the “human” represents.) Another way of putting it might be: #DEI for all beings on a universal scale.

Again, not an expert… just sharing my take.

If you want to hear it from the experts, check out this talk on a new book by #francescaferrando that I’m SUPER excited about! (See link below) Titled: The Art of Being Posthuman.

Francesca Ferrando "In Love with... The Art of Being Posthuman" CETAPS+ Cultures of the Future Talks Feb 14, 2024 5 PM UTC (Lisbon) Online What is Love? As a celebration of Valentine's Day in post-anthropocentric ways, this book presentation of The Art of Being Posthuman: Who are We in the 21st Century? (Polity), will focus on the notion of posthuman love approached as love for existence. This posthuman journey of self-inquiry will engage with a wide range of knowledge and wisdom: from the Paleolithic times to the futures of radical life extension, from multi-species evolutions to the rights of Nature, the Anthropocene and the rise of Artificial Intelligence. Knowing who we are means loving the Self as the others within. We are one and many: Infinite, Love. Dr. Ferrando, Ph.D. (pronouns: they/them) teaches Philosophy at New York University (US), NYU-Program of Liberal Studies. Dr. Ferrando is a leading voice in the field of Posthuman Studies and the author of several publications, including Philosophical Posthumanism (Bloomsbury) and The Art of Being Posthuman (Polity); their work has been translated into a dozen languages. Dr. Ferrando was awarded the philosophical prize "Sainati" by the President of Italy; named "One of the 100 Top Creatives Making Change in the World" by ‘ORIGIN’ Magazine, and defined as "the Philosopher Poet of our Times". @thstockinger Whoa, super interesting topics! The Leibniz correspondence must be quite an undertaking and possibly eye-opening? The social history of scholarship seems very relevant to today, related to #DEI . This reminds me of #francescaferrando work related to the silencing and marginalization of populations who were actors in the development of the concept of today’s version of "the human." From my perspective, the development of the "human" includes scholarship. She talks about ways that those marginalized voices became liberated on another level through "technologies of the self."
Your inquiry on how knowledge was generated and what it’s used for also seems very present-day relevant, and there’s a lot to explore there! Much of your interest-driven research topics have been largely on my mind lately, though the epistolary piece is new to me! Never thought much about letters, but I guess transmitting info through letters is what you and I are doing right now! Great to e-meet you!

I come to #posthumanism from a science background, via #permaculture > #timothymorton > #francescaferrando . I think I’m doing it backwards, because only now am I diving into #literarure , #history , #religion , and the rest of the #humanities . It seems that many folx come to PH from a #humanities background.
I’m now discovering a whole slew of things I never knew existed! And finding that a whole bunch of people are studying the things I thought I was the alone in thinking about… so exciting!

@fgraver Hi! I ran into your account when I did a hashtag search for #4ECognition . Your intro talks about experiential education, which is something I’ve spent a lot of time studying and thinking about. I’m over in the US studying Posthumanism for my masters degree, and have been thinking a lot about what it would look like to go into academia as a professor. I know that one responsibility of that position is to teach. My undergrad degree was largely focused on studying experiential education and various models and best practices. It feels like an art form to me. I wonder if/how/when experiential education can be utilized in academia. #francescaferrando talks about Posthuman education in academia, and from my perspective, experiential education can’t be left out of that.
Anyway, I wanted to reach out and say hi! I’d love to hear a bit about your work in experiential and situated learning, and anything else you’d like to share! I’m specifically curious about situated learning!
