#Epistemic minorities in health journalism

A minority is not always a person or community. Sometimes, minority is a certain way of seeing, a critical theory that is overlooked or silenced.

Both scientists and #journalists seek the truth. But truth is caught between a rock and a hard place. We are facing both post-truth & scientific essentialism.

As an antidote, we need a new narrative, 6W + 1H, on evidence frameworks in journalism that expands on the classic 5W + 1H.

This Open Access article explores how authentic assessment can foster students’ #epistemic #agency—their ability to use, evaluate, and produce knowledge. Based on a qualitative case study of a digitally-mediated #archaeology course, the findings show students became (i) active learners, (ii) critical users of knowledge, and (iii) contributors to public archaeological knowledge.
Reframing assessment through an epistemological lens, our study highlights how authentic tasks can support academic growth and social good. 🔗 Read more: https://doi.org/10.1080/13562517.2024.2332252
