GENTLENESS (1997)
Acrylic on Canvas - 11” x 13”
Not a classical Virtue, but based on observing my young son with our aging family cat. It's how I hope we'll care for all the earth's creatures.

The last quality, perseverance, I particularly respect: it is the very hinge of all virtues. -- On looking over the world, the cause of nine parts in ten of the lamentable failures which occur in men's undertakings & darken and degrade so much of their history, lies not in the…

Kyseessä on eräänlainen ad hominem -(virhe)päättely, jota voisi karttaa.

Quote of the day, 10 March: Venerable María Antonia
From prayer, we must draw the water that nourishes and preserves the flowers of the virtues. If we do not go to that divine fountain to draw this water, how could those virtues grow in the garden of our soul, or remain fresh—those that our Lord may have granted us by some particular grace of His?
Rather, through our own fault and negligence, they would wither if we remain idle in prayer, spending our time thinking about irrelevant things, when instead we ought to be working with our faculties to fill the little pitcher of our will with holy effects and loving affections for our divine Spouse.
Venerable María Antonia of Jesus (Pereira y Andrade)
Edificio espiritual, chap. 5
Note: Venerable María Antonia of Jesus (María Antonia Pereira y Andrade) was a Spanish Discalced Carmelite nun born in Santiago de Compostela on 5 October 1700. In 1748, she founded the Carmel of Santiago de Compostela, arriving from the Carmel of Corpus Christi in Alcalá de Henares with six other nuns chosen from several Carmelite monasteries in Spain. Renowned for her contemplative life, Eucharistic devotion, and fidelity to Carmelite spirituality, she also composed the spiritual treatise Edificio espiritual. Her cause for canonization has advanced in the Church, and on 7 November 2018, the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints promulgated the decree recognizing her heroic virtues, granting her the title Venerable. She died at the Carmel of Santiago de Compostela on 10 March 1760.
