Seit diesem Jahr ist es möglich mit nur einem Umstieg durch das gesamte #Baltikum #Vilnius - #Riga - #Tallinn zu reisen. Dabei verkehrt ein Pesa-Triebwagen von #LTGLink 🇱🇹 in Kooperation mit #Vivi 🇱🇻 und #Elron 🇪🇪 über beide Landesgrenzen. Im estnischen Grenzbahnhof #Valga ist noch ein abgestimmter Umstieg zu einem Stadler-DMU von Elron notwendig, um bis nach Tallinn zu gelangen.

Es braucht ein bissl Sitzfleisch, aber der Pesa ist recht komfortabel und Snacks werden an den Platz serviert.

Of course, I have to board a 🇪🇪 #Elron train. On the westbound line from Tallinn, trains run every 20 minutes. They terminate alternately at Paldiski, Turba, or the junction station of Keila. Four trains a day are extended from Keila to the branch line to Kloogaranna. For a limited time only, the entire Elron fleet consists of Stadler Flirt trains. New Škoda trains will soon be in service to complement them. I am familiar with the Flirt trains from back home, but not with this width. #BlankSpots

#Elron is conducting test runs today and later this week between #Valga and #Riga stations for their coming direct (#Tallinn –) #Tartu – Riga train connection.
The destination sign says "Tere Riia!", i.e. "Hello Riga!"

First Tartu-Riga train connection test to take place in August

Elron will start testing the planned Tartu-Riga train line next month and the biggest challenges are expected to be radio communication and fitting trains into the Latvian railway corridor.

For my #CrossBorderRail tour around Baltic Sea next week, #DB, #DSB, #SJ and #Elron did their best to sabotage my travel plans:
- no night trains Hamburg-Stockholm
- no direct trains Hamburg-København
- Tallinn-Valga-Rīga on weekends broken: Elron arrives 3 mins after Vivi has left Valga
- Baltic station closed 15.-21. july
- EC Warszawa-Berlin ends at Frankfurt(Oder)
Mostly due to trackworks.

#LTG took us to rainy #Riga with a slight delay. We would still have made the #pv / #Vivi train to #Valga, but as #Elron had further worsened the connection there (not sure to make it to the ship), took the #LuxExpress bus to #Tallinn instead. Very comfy in the "lounge" section, but I still prefer the train.
Saw for the first time something concrete of #RailBaltica, its station construction in Riga. In wait of that, is there hope for better connections on the existing lines?
