Donate: Logging Audit in the Upper Oldman - Alberta Wilderness Association

The Alberta Wilderness Association has agreed to support a selected audit of current and past logging operations in the Oldman watershed. This will provide essential input to the Forest Management Plan being developed for the watershed and assist in developing environmental standards that are meaningful for the protection of species at risk, trout, and water quality. Funds raised will be used to hire a biological consultant with extensive experience in logging in the region. If you care about the Eastern Slopes, and are also concerned about logging and the impact on native trout and water quality, we hope you will join us in supporting this initiative. Your donation is tax-deductible.  Together, we can make a difference for our forests and watersheds.

As I keep writing letters to the government expressing my dismay at their actions, I’m so thankful for the Indigenous groups resisting the Alberta government’s attempts to turn over our Eastern Slopes to mining corporations. #Coal #AbPoli #easternSlopes https://open.substack.com/pub/theorchard/p/treaty-7-first-nations-challenge?r=gh29k&utm_medium=ios
Treaty 7 First Nations challenge Alberta's lifting of coal ban in court

"Litigation was our only option at this point. Once coal mines are approved the damage will be done and it will be too late.”

While you may be busy believing government decisions are beneath you, like I recently believed 🫠… | Jenny Yeremiy, P. Geoph

While you may be busy believing government decisions are beneath you, like I recently believed 🫠… 📢 Let the record show, as this may be the last time we are able to stop the United Conservative Party of Alberta from taking freshwater out of an already OVER ALLOCATED Old Man basin: 1️⃣ this👇is Professor James Byrne, of the The University of Lethbridge explaining the amount of liabilities the fossil fuel industry has created across British Columbia and Alberta. That the methods our government claims it will EVENTUALLY use to prevent our water from being poisoned TODAY are not real. That the UCP Government is ignoring peer reviewed science and audit review information that tells them their future solution is not real. 2️⃣ It is court-documented that the Eastern Slopes resource potential is likely only worth 2.5 years of total development, NOT 25 years worth of mining resource ahead. Thank you, Cornelis Kolijn for informing us court documented information is available to Premier Danielle Smith. Who’s role, along with Minister Brian Jean, is to MINIMIZE legal exposure to the Province, NOT aim to maximize it. ADD: no Premier Smith, lawsuits may only recover damages, not “proved potential” losses. There are not $14 billion lawsuits. 3️⃣ the exploration program, approved by the AER is completely unnecessary. There are more than enough wells already defining the site as Cornelis explained. 4️⃣there is no market for the resource and no revenue for the province worth any of this. Albertans voiced our opposition of coal mining across the political spectrum when voting for this government. Albertans were promised by UCP Ministers they would not allow coal mining to return. This appears to be nothing more than to test water theft and pollute while water is already scarce. #ForTheRecord If you live in Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba and have not messaged the Alberta government. Please do. Why? Because you need water 💦, too. Alberta is a headwater province and our leaders refuse to take this responsibility seriously. It’s time to stop taking from rather start restoring them. Albertans and Canadians first, not billionaires. #BadBusiness Copy, paste, edit, send #EasyPeasy premier@gov.ab.ca epa.minister@gov.ab.ca minister.energy@gov.ab.ca AGRIC.Minister@gov.ab.ca Say “no” to foreign interests, minimal jobs, water harm and loss. Another thing you can do is ARM YOURSELF WITH KNOWLEDGE for when you're talking with friends, family or even your elected representative. Don't let anyone tell you Albertans want coal mining on our #EasternSlopes. Recent polling shows a STRONG MAJORITY are against it
