A blue dasher at Sweetwater #Wetlands. Somewhat the worse for wear but still perching in the sun like a boss

I made it to #Sweetwater #Wetlands again and there were dragonflies!

I wish #darktable made it easy to copy and paste the image information - f/9 300mm 1/200 ISO 100. A partly closed shutter like f/9 is important because the depth of field covers much more of the animal this way - in the past this hasn't been possible because the light from a wider aperture couldn't be sacrificed. In this case I was able to make up the lost light with a well lit subject, a still day, and a bit of patience.

Can we listen to Titan’s heartbeat? Icequakes as a window into a hidden ocean.

What lies beneath the surface of Titan, Saturn’s largest moon? This question is central to the upcoming Dragonfly mission, which will deploy a drone equipped with scientific instruments on Titan’s surface in the coming years. Among them is a seismometer designed to record ground vibrations. But does Titan shake enough for such instruments to detect anything meaningful? A new study led by an international team, including researchers from the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris, provides […]
