I finally hit the 6 gallon mark with lifetime blood donation #48 today with the American Red Cross! It’s always been enjoyable to ride on trails and greenways for most of my trip to and from the appointment, as it relaxes me. Gallon number 7 is my next target!

Please donate blood ( or platelets, plasma, and red blood cells) if you are able. Platelets and or red cell donation can take time but it’s needed for many people.

Free, voluntary plasma or blood donation saves lives. It's so easy!
If you donate plasma, you will be given an infusion of saline solution in the appropriate amount to replace what you have lost. The device centrifuges the plasma and returns the blood cells, etc.
If you donate blood the amount lost is smaller so you will not be given anything to replace it; you will need to replenish your fluids yourself afterwards.
And then I get thanks and food in my department, even vegan food.

Donated 3 units of platelets today at Stanford's Blood Center. They are probably already on their way to a human who needs them over the next day or two.

Usually it's 2 units unless they have a need. The 3rd unit adds about 20-30 min overall to the collection time.

After giving lifetime blood donation #47 today, I visited the MLK memorial in Seattle and reflected on the new article in the South Seattle Emerald looking back at the efforts to rename Empire Way to MLK Way before I was born.

Als je bloed, plasma of bloedplaatjes doneert, krijg je daar geen geld voor. Je doneert altijd op vrijwillige basis. Wel krijg je af en toe een cadeautje als blijk van waardering.

Had a routine blood donation where I get blood pulled out, spun around, platelets collected, and the leftovers returned to me. Otherwise known as a platelet donation. At one of Stanford Blood Center's locations.

Usually it's a 2 unit donation, but they asked if I had time for a third unit. Sure!

Lifetime donation #233 in the bags, and 13th for this year. My platelets will probably be put to use for a surgery or chemo patient in days, perhaps tomorrow.
