Whole blood donations are gender-neutral in Australia as of today! Everyone will be screened using the same sexual activity criteria.

This joins the changes that created the "plasma pathway" in June 2025, with plasma donations not subject to sexual activity restrictions at all.

All you need to do, if you are medically able, is to commit a couple of hours every couple of months, to become a regular blood donor.

Earlier this week I donated blood for the first time. It went super well! I sometimes have a bit of hemophobia, and inexplicably it didn't bother me at all. Will definitely be donating again.

If you are medically able, please consider becoming a regular blood donor. All blood banks are running low--COVID decimated the ranks of regular donors, who tend to be older. It takes but a couple of hours every couple of months, and you get to save lives.
