I've updated my #mastoadmin SQL and cron scripts a bit today to better keep my server clean.

It's getting *pretty* good after roughly a year of iterating on them, today in particular was a massive refactor and improvement to both query performance and capabilities.

Cleaned +70 spam accounts I had missed, thanks to the new tweaks.

Yesterday evening I had a brief conversation with another citizen of the Fediverse about one of our users who was - in short - spamming and being a bit of a dick. I have therefore introduced two new server rules on #mstdndk

1) NO SPAM
2) DON'T BE A DICK

Mastodon moderation tooling for DM spam is basically "not possible", so I ended up doing a bunch of custom SQL to detect those I blocked today

Weekly server maintenance for expressional.social is done. ✅

This time around I decided to patch both the hypervisor, linux kernel, network switches and finally Mastodon itself.

The expanded scope of the upgrade meant a bit longer downtime than usually (~14min vs 0-5min) but there was a couple of CVEs (security bugs in software) I wanted to get fixed (just in case).
