Ok, Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb has a little more depth and variety than Republic Commando, but imo it's still not worth slogging all the way through in the Year of Our Lucas 2025. It has disarming enemies with the bullwhip, punching nazis, swinging across gaps with the bullwhip, punching nazis, blasting sword-wielding enemies with your pistol, exploring ancient ruins in search of forgotten treasures, and punching nazis. Unfortunately, it's very clunky by today's standards, and there isn't a wide variety of mechanics, so eventually swinging across gaps, shuffling along ledges, flipping switches, and even punching nazis becomes tedious - particularly when missing a step or a handhold due to physics jank leads to restarting a chapter.
I'm still plodding my way toward The Emperor's Tomb.
There's some fun game design here, but the gameplay is seriously dated. You know you've fucked something up when punching nazis gets tedious, and the frustration of repeatedly falling to your death because the physics system janked up again is real.
I'm not sure whether to be happy they didn't give Mei Ying some cringey chinese stereotype accent, or dismayed by whatever this is
