@jsiehler cosh 𝑥 and sinh 𝑥 have the same right to exist as cos 𝑥 and sin 𝑥 because they all together appear in the matrix representation of a four-dimensional Lorentz transformation. The hyperbolic functions describe the acceleration in the same way as the ordinary trigonometric functions describe a rotation.

By the way, are there other “natural” uses of the hyperbolic functions?
