I feel annoyed when coworkers start a teams chat with "you in the office today?" because 1. my calendar is up to date. If it actually mattered, they could just check. And 2. We have all these digital collab tools and 90% of my company isn't in the same office building so it really shouldn't matter. I've yet to run into the problem we couldn't solve with a screen share and a phone call.

But it occurred to me today that 9 times out of 10 this question is probably just someone fishing for an excuse to procrastinate.

Sometime today an important project at work is 🚨 changing colors🚨 Blame will be laid on *broadly gestures* "us." Perhaps more specifically as the leader: Me. It's inaccurate, I'm not aligned to it. I REALLY want to be defensive but I won't b/c it doesn't work.

Sure wish @kairyssdal was active here. He'd get a kick out of this. I'm writing an opening statement w/ Fed chair Jerome Powell in mind: Fact driven, boring, informative, not alarmist.

I've been told to get the premium version of Copilot at work. OK fine whatever. So as I fill out the form I have to check a bunch of boxes that say I'll crosscheck any results and I agree not to trust it with important work and bla bla bla.

I got scolded for taking and distributing meeting notes manually. "That's what we have AI for."

Yeah, OK. I've tried. The AI notes suck, mine rock. Whatever. I'd rather take my own notes than edit some dumb machine's.

I'm still 🤯 at a meeting I had with the boss of my boss last week. She told me we're breaking down silos between business units, and not 2 minutes later told me there isn't an appetite to combine the same meetings with similar folks doing the same sort of work across sister business units.

I have been using Outlook for literal decades. Microsoft has managed to botch #NewOutlook so bad, that I'm now at the stage of not trusting it will do anything I want it to. I canceled a meeting series last week. It's back. I canceled it again today, and now folks are somehow ACCEPTING the cancellation? 30% AI code, indeed. Make it make sense! (This is at work, I have no choice)

Fun story. My company has introduced yet another AI tool they want us to use.

So that’s MS copilot in EVERYTHING, and THREE company-customized AI tools. Plus specialized ones by business unit.

There’s one to ask for help finding stuff (actually pretty helpful)

One to provide guidance on how to have difficult conversations, write goals, etc (who needs HR?!)

And another one that is totally useless and falls on its face with every question.

I need an AI that can make people comprehend simple and short business emails with a request or two in them.

Like, someone assumes my note is about XYX even though I anticipated that and specifically say it isn't. Then they loop in a bunch of folks re: XYZ. And those folks try to help, even though they can't.
