NYC Mesh
NYC Mesh는 뉴욕시 전역에 걸쳐 분산형 커뮤니티 소유 무선 메쉬 네트워크를 구축하는 비영리 프로젝트입니다. 약 2,000개 이상의 활성 노드가 있으며, OSPF 라우팅 프로토콜과 장거리 및 근거리 무선 안테나를 활용해 네트워크의 견고성과 확장성을 확보합니다. 2019년 비영리 법인으로 설립되었고, 인터넷 접속을 제공하지만 ISP는 아니며, 네트워크 참여자들이 자유롭게 네트워크를 확장하고 운영하는 네트워크 커먼스 라이선스를 따릅니다. 2017년 미국 FCC의 망중립성 폐지 결정 이후 회원 가입이 급증하는 등 커뮤니티 기반 인터넷 인프라 구축의 좋은 사례로 평가받고 있습니다.

In a mountainous region in Italy where internet access is not possible for many, locals interconnect in the valleys between the mountains using WiFi antennas connected to routers running libremesh (and some other FOSS based layers). Technology often gives us the illusion of being independent, as if we did not depend on geography or food. Here, technology actually *creates* connections, and makes visible how much we do depend on our environment and on other people.

Oswego County, NY officials are celebrating the award of a new $26 million New York State grant to bring affordable fiber access to long-underserved rural communities in the northwestern part of the state. Oswego County will own the finished open access network and lease the fiber to Internet Service Providers (SPs), including Empire Access.
